Licensing and regulation
Before borrowing from any online lender, check that it holds a licence in your state. Here is ours, how to verify it independently, the caps Florida law puts on what we may charge, and who to complain to if we get something wrong.

We are not an NMLS registrant. A Florida Chapter 516 consumer finance company is licensed by the OFR; NMLS registration covers mortgage originators, which we are not. Any lender citing an NMLS ID for a Florida personal loan is telling you about a different kind of licence.
What Florida law lets us charge
Chapter 516 is a consumer-protection statute as much as a licensing one. These are its limits, and they bind us whatever our loan documents say:
- Interest cap. § 516.031(1) permits a licensee 36% simple interest on the first $10,000 of principal, 30% from $10,000 to $20,000, and 24% from $20,000 to $25,000. Because we lend up to $10,000, only the first tier ever applies — a lawful ceiling of 36.00% at our largest loan. Our highest offered APR is 35.99%.
- No compounding, nothing in advance. Interest must be computed on unpaid principal balances. It may not be compounded and may not be collected before it is earned.
- Delinquency charge cap. § 516.031(3) allows at most $15 per monthly payment, only once that payment is at least 12 days in default, and only where it was agreed in writing beforehand. A percentage-based late fee, or one charged sooner, would be unlawful.
- Prepayment. § 516.031(6) — you may prepay in whole or in part at any time without penalty.
- Maximum principal. The statute permits up to $25,000. Our $2,000–$10,000 range is our own product limit, not a legal one — we mention it because some lenders present a product cap as though the law required it.
Summaries, not legal advice. The current text of Florida Statutes Chapter 516 governs, and the statute controls wherever this page and it disagree.
Federal protections that apply to your loan
- Truth in Lending (Reg Z). You receive a written disclosure of the APR, finance charge, amount financed, total of payments and payment schedule before you sign anything.
- Equal Credit Opportunity Act (Reg B). We may not discriminate on a prohibited basis, and if we decline you we must give you a written statement of the principal reasons.
- Fair Credit Reporting Act. Where a decision uses information from a consumer report, we must tell you, identify the agency, and tell you how to get a free copy and dispute anything inaccurate in it.
- Electronic Fund Transfer Act (Reg E). Automatic payments are optional and can never be a condition of getting a loan, and you may revoke the authorisation.
- Military Lending Act. Additional protections apply to covered service members and their dependents.
If you have a complaint
Start with us — email support@stridefi.io or call (910) 478-7259. If we do not resolve it, you can escalate to a regulator who can act against us:
- Florida Office of Financial Regulation — our state licensing regulator, at flofr.gov.
- Consumer Financial Protection Bureau — federal consumer complaints, at consumerfinance.gov/complaint.
- Florida Attorney General — for unfair or deceptive practices, at myfloridalegal.com.
Complaining to a regulator costs nothing and does not affect your loan.
